Postal History: 1797 small part wrapper to a Private in the 6th, Dn Gde, sent at the Military Concession rate. This is a Soldier's Letter pre-paid 1d with m/s Post Paid 1 followed by DUNGANNON straight-line, correctly countersigned George French Captain 6th Dn Gde Commanding a Party of said Regt at Dungannon 15th Febr 1797, with fair circular POST/PAID/D in claret, reverse with fine Dublin circular FE/.20./97 in black.
Despite faults, this is a very rare example of an Irish Soldier's concessionary rate from the 18th century; this rate was first introduced in March 1796.This Product was added to our catalogue on 13/10/2017.
